Pueblo dog | Taos Pueblo, New Mexico

There were dogs everywhere! Taos Pueblo is an oft-photographed beautifully-preserved historical Indian village. A very popular destination, I found people waiting anxiously with me at 8AM on a Monday while the pueblo opened late, and by 10AM was surrounded by tourists.

What can I say, I love donkeys...

Even in a state filled to the brim with beautifully rugged scenery, Abiquiu stands out as an especially magical place.

Backroads to Taos | New Mexico

On one of the narrow roads heading toward the High Road to Taos. I missed the sunrise but the morning sky was lovely anyway.

Tent Rocks | New Mexico

My first inspiration to head to New Mexico came from photos of the Tent Rocks. After visiting Cappadocia, Turkey, and believing it to be one of the most magical places on earth, I was amazed to discover a landscape so similar existed right in my own country.

Santo Domingo Pueblo | New Mexico

Santo Domingo pueblo holds a big Arts & Crafts market every Labor Day weekend. Normally pueblos either forbid photography completely, charge a fee, or allow photography except for during ceremonial dances. Not sure why this was an exception, but the office confirmed I could take photos.

The market was actually cut short that day because the dance was meant as a request for rain, and it rained really hard! This photo was actually taken after the rain left giant puddles all over the market grounds...the dancing continued but the artisans were instructed to pack up their stalls.

Bandelier National Monument | New Mexico

The longest ladder on the climb to the Alcove House, aka Ceremonial Cave. Not nearly as scary as it sounds when "140 feet of ladders" is repeated constantly. The four ladders are quite stable, seemingly welded to the rock, and part of the climb is simply steps.

The Main Loop Trail, Bandelier's most popular. I have seen very few good pictures of Bandelier, even by professionals. Except for ArnyZona, who is awesome at everything! After being there my conclusion is that it's actually difficult to shoot well....beautiful in person but almost none of my color photos were passable and only a few of the black-and-whites. Better luck with infrared shots, to be honest.
