I loved these baby hoods. Not attached to a sweater. I may have a new winter project.

On our second day trekking we were supposed to do an activity with Akha people. They told us the example was gathering fresh vegetables and helping to cook. Instead, our guide seemed to be semi-making it up as he went along. We came across some farmers who were watering beans, and he instructed us to help them water, using a flimsy hollowed-out gourd. (The farmers, using a plastic ladle, were much faster). When we arrived in the village, the guide made eggs and instant noodles. Still can't figure out if this was a joke on us or not.

Our host, the chief's wife. She was quite cold at first, but right before we left--perhaps because we were showing interest in her kitchen--she was welcoming us to visit again.

Eating breakfast with the Akha village's chief (who could speak a little Chinese, and his new buddy, the government surveyor from Buon Neua. Breakfast was all the same foods from dinner (cold, of course), but with the addition of mochi balls. These guys had no qualms about starting up on the lao-lao again, but we'd had enough the night before!

Playing a Lao version of duck-duck goose. In this version, "it" hid a wad of paper under the crouching child's bum. Upon noticing, that child would try to hit "it" by throwing the wad of paper. It was super cute.

Khmu New Year, which happened to fall on Christmas. Our guesthouse owners were among the few Khmu in a mostly Lao and Ahka town. So yes...we got drunk on Christmas afternoon.

Behind the market...perhaps the spot for vendors who don't want to rent space.
