I don't know what this sign means either. It was on the front of the shop where I got my motorcycle ride to Njobvu.

I was lucky to be in Liwonde during dry season. Malawi is not known for its abundant animal life, but with the lack of watering holes, a herd of about 12 elephants appeared to drink out of the Shire River. I'd never been on a safari before, and this was a rather cut-rate version of safari to begin with...and I was just blown away.

Hippos are possibly the most common big animal to see around Liwonde.

View from the back of a motorcycle. The initiation celebrations were scattered throughout the various villages along the road from Ulongwe to Liwonde National Park. Some were small enough to drive around. We came across one similar in size to this one on the main road. We had to simply wait for the revelers to go around us.

Getting drunker and drunker during the initiation celebration. Seeing a man and woman actually dancing together like this was rare...the genders seemed quite separated despite the dancing being so sexually-charged.
