Not a particularly big market and not marked on my guidebook map...mostly sold vegetables, flour, oil and rubber shoes.

Why...how else do you do it? We had first approached a shack with a handwritten sign proclaiming "SIM CARDS!" but of course that was pure foolishness. The women sitting to the side on plastic stools selling SIM cards out of their purses made much more sense. Sort of like when I approached the Celtel booth at the airport and was told "no no...buy your SIM at the Avis counter."

The woodcarvers lived near Nkhotakhota and were invited by the hotel to set up shop on the premises so they could reach more tourists. I talked to these guys for a while, and still feel slightly guilty that I didn't buy anything from there. It was just too early in the trip for shopping.

I LOVE this. If I could have carried it I would have bought it...so much detail, so cute, so much like my travel experiences.
