We stopped at this roadside stand on the way to Torotoro, for last-minute bathroom use and snack-buying. We were quickly distracted by the adorable donkeys across the street, especially the shorter shaggy one.

Huayculi is apparently the pottery center of Bolivia, although we didn't receive much information about it. The most popular items seemed to be various vulgarly-shaped vessels for drinking chicha. For me the most interesting part was that the home of this pottery-making family was overtaken by the products.

I never tasted chicha because it sounded, smelled and looked damn disgusting. This strong liquor made from fermented corn is popular throughout that Andes. Here, after using the nasty squat toilets in the back of the restaurant, we were treated to the sight of bubbling vats of chicha in various stages.

When our guide Gonzalo picked us up from the Cochabamba bus station, we encountered our first misunderstanding. We thought he was taking us to relax and have breakfast as we had arrived so early in the morning. Instead, we headed straight toward our first stop with my hunger growing and bladder bursting. Finally convincing Gonzalo to stop, we went to this tiny open-air restaurant to use the facilties (awful).
